What you can expect from me

You are unique and so is your counselling journey. I honor your individuality by tailoring my therapeutic approach to your needs. My counselling is informed by neuroscience, polyvagal theory, mindfulness and strengths-based practices.  I integrate different modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment   Therapy (ACT).
A strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of your healing process. I strive to hold a warm, encouraging space for you to freely express yourself and to lean into distress and discomfort.  At times, I will offer gentle guidance in the form of reflections, tools and exercises to support you in your therapeutic journey.
Ultimately, you know yourself best. I will meet you where you are at.  You set the pace for our work together and I will be alongside you to help you discover your path forward.
Together, we can help you achieve a greater sense of well-being, increased resilience, fulfilling relationships, and a deeper connection to yourself.
Your journey begins with a single step.

About me

I’ve been a registered clinical counsellor for over 18 years.  I am passionate about my work as a therapist, and would be honored to be a part of your journey.

I’m no stranger to adversity, having lost many dear ones over the years. These losses stretched my capacity for both extreme suffering and overwhelming love, and I've learned to hold space for my own and others' grief and trauma.  I have also completed in depth training in trauma and grief, and my practice is rooted in a deep understanding of how loss and life events impact our mind, body and connection with others.

I create a calm space in my heart and my life by finding delight in simple things: spending time with my children and husband, enjoying the local lakes and the ski hills, getting lost in a good book, and writing.

With almost two decades of professional experience and a lifetime of personal learning, I’m here to support you in your own journey towards wellness.

FAQ

If your question isn't answered on my website, please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone.

How do I get started with counselling?

Our first session together is a 50-minute meet & greet / intake session.

This gives me an opportunity to gather information so I can get to know you better, and answer any questions you may have about the counselling process.  This will give you the chance to feel into whether my approach is a good fit for you and to ensure there is a good therapeutic connection.

If you have questions and would like to connect with me briefly prior to scheduling a meet & greet appointment, I would be happy to meet for a complimentary 10-minute phone consultation. Please email/call me to schedule.

How long is each counselling session?

A standard counselling session is 50 minutes in length.  Longer sessions are available upon request and availability.  The rates for longer sessions will be pro-rated accordingly.

Is everything we talk about confidential?

Feeling safe to share is fundamental to your healing journey.  I am committed to keeping your personal information, and anything you disclose in session, private.  There are some exceptions to the counsellor’s duty of confidentiality.  These exceptions are reviewed with you at our first session.
